The C90 and Overclocking the CPU

The C90 and Overclocking the CPU
Did some reading, and it appears that you can overclock the CPU in the C90 by up to 20%, up to 2.93Ghz. So If you purchased an E6600, you could overclock it and have it running at almost X6800 speeds at 2.88Ghz.

The maximum FSB speed is 1279. So in a 1:1 ratio, the max speed the RAM could run at (if overclocked) is ~640Mhz. So even though the C90 supports DDR2-800, It might be pointless if you plan to overclock and keep the RAM in a 1:1 ratio.

The Asus C90 is the second notebook out right now that can be overclocked. The Dell XPS M1710 with the T7600G CPU.

But the OC function in the dell is useless. It's unstable, and seems to lower you performance when you OC.

If you would get a low-latency DDR2-667, it would probably perform better than DDR2-800 anyway, so it ain't a big loss. I wonder if you could remove the block that doesn't allow you to OC higher. Would be interesting to see how much you can push a Core 2 Extreme with the massive stock cooling system.

I suppose the only way to overclock higher, would be via a hacked BIOS. Doubt anyone has made one yet...
